In 1910 Halley’s Comet was approaching 400,000 kilometers from Earth, insufficient for its tail to touch the surface. Camille Flammarion, was the first to warn that the tail would make the earth’s atmosphere poisonous and deadly. And the newspapers amplified it. Among many anecdotes, Muzzio installed a telescope in Buenos Aires: «For 5 cents see the comet … cause of your future death.» Francisco Míguez, made underground bunkers. About 400 suicides were recorded.
Since man exists, catastrophes are announced, and none are fulfilled. Those who believe in traditional theology know that they are chimeras because God, say theologians, has created nature and man to grow and develop.
Among the catastrophes announced, the most symptomatic and hilarious was that of Orson Wells. CBS warned that it was a fiction, but some distracted believed it to be real. «We interrupt our program … to announce … that scientific observations and reality force us to believe that the strangers who have landed … are the vanguard of an invading army from … Mars …»
Panic clouds the mind and people imagine things and convince themselves that they are real. Carl Philips from Grovers Mill, broadcasted: «This is the most terrifying thing I have ever witnessed … Someone is moving forward … I can see … two luminous discs …». Thousands abandoned their homes, collapsing roads. Emergency phones received countless messages claiming to have seen – dead by Covid – aliens.
Aitor Moya, in the ABC of Spain, wrote “Today it is unthinkable to conceive that such an extraordinary phenomenon… could happen again”. But it happens. Some modern Orson Wells announced a tremendous attack of a dangerous virus and the media promoted it to the point of putting, on its front page, terrifying stories, and the number of deaths in the world that exceeds the «terrifying» figure of 2.5 million.
Well, it is not even 0.034% of humanity, but there is panic, and every figure is terrifying. It is less than those who die from other diseases, per case, a quarter of those who die from cancer and are less than 10% of total deaths.
Coldly, everyone recognizes that the number of victims of Covid is not high, but they argue that they are few, precisely, thanks to the measures adopted. How do they know? Well, panic tells them because there is no serious, scientific argument that supports it, on the contrary, science denies them. An empirical verification is impossible because, as it did not happen that there were no police interventions (in use of the state monopoly of violence) by the governments, there is no data in this regard.
By the way, common sense says that to be healthy you must do sports, breathe fresh air, work and socialize to be animated, eat and sleep well. And science has conclusively established that violence destroys, that is, the police actions of governments destroy, and the data would corroborate it: even in the worst case of the advance of the Covid, the number of deaths would not reach even a tenth of those due to the coercive measures of governments that cause a social and economic crisis that leads to hundreds of millions of malnourished people, thousands of suicides, and many other calamities.
It is not bad to take care of yourself. Violence and disbelief in nature are awfully bad.
